High Five Friday
It's Friday and the sun is (sort of) shining. What could be more perfect??
Here's the highlight reel from my week.
1. Dirty Harry
My 11-year-old and I have started something fun--whenever little sister is at a playdate or birthday party, we watch a classic film together, just the two of us. I think he enjoys getting to do something "grown up" and I like sharing what I learned as a film studies major with him.
This past weekend, we watched Dirty Harry. Made in 1971, it's a fantastic example of the aesthetic of the time. The Library of Congress said basically the same thing two years ago when the movie was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
Have a look at this clip with the infamous line: "Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Aren't the sets just so great?!
2. Swim Bike Run
My sweet little girl finally ditched the training wheels on her bike this week and has requested a big bike from the Easter Bunny. She also started Mileage Club this week, a program sponsored by our local hospital to encourage children to live a healthy, fit lifestyle by running three days a week. And, once a week, swims after school. A triathlete in the making??
3. FLOR is FBFree
FLOR is offering free samples of its carpet squares today via Facebook. Get your sample using promo code FBFree. I was able to get two samples at absolutely no cost. They have so many gorgeous colors and patterns. My favorite is this leopard print above.
4. Penguin Classics (and other books & gifts)
There are always always great sales on One Kings Lane. If you haven't joined, be my guest to shop for little gifts to give or keep. I especially like the sale for grads today. It's full of lots of beautiful things including several gorgeous sets of books like this set of Penguin classics that would look fantastic in any home library. My handsome husband-to-be won a prize for most sales at work for last week!! and I won a Project Decorate contest on Polyvore. A HUGE thank you to Mimosa Lane for hosting the Classic Eclectic with a Modern Edge contest and Zinc Door for the gift certificate!!

Week Three: One Room Challenge
Welcome to week three of my One Room Challenge! Thank you to Linda @ Calling It Home for hosting this semi-annual sensation! You can catch up with my plan from week one here and progress in week two here.
This week I spent most of my energy obsessing over wallpaper. And that's all I am going to say about that.
I worked a bit on my bar'moire (thanks to Albertina @ Mimosa Lane for that perfect term).
I originally removed the wood patterned inlay so I could glam it up with gold paint. But once it was out of the cabinet I realized that the insides could be seen so much better without it. So now I'm not sure what to do....
I could use the inlay for architectural interest on the wall, especially since I haven't figured out the art to fill these salvaged frames.
Which is a little bit too bad because hung the other way the lines are similar to the pattern in this mirror that I hung behind the backdoor.
I bought a garden stool to hold drinks (or random toys--the more functional the room, the more everyone starts to use it).
I still need to shop for an area rug near the backdoor and a better looking garbage can (ideally one with a division for recycling).
But the styling of the bookcase is coming along (minus the extra toys).

I still need to either get rid of the window treatments or replace them, but I am happy with the lamp. So that's positive!
