{Ditto} DIY: Gild Something

This glorious lampshade was headed for the trash heap.

I bought it a few years ago from Target, and at some point along the way, the metal framework inside had come away from the shade.

I thought maybe I could hot glue it back together. It also occurred to me that this might be the perfect time to try out my little tube of gold leaf Amaco rub 'n buff.

Rub 'n buff is super easy to use. Just squeeze a little on, smear it around, and after it's dry then buff it with a cloth. The DIY took less than 15 minutes including the time it took me to hot glue the shade to the metal.

One warning: I pressed a teensy bit too hard when I was smearing and the shade cracked in a few places. It's not obvious and I totally love how it turned out!

I'm sharing today's post on the fabulous Darlene's link party. Check it out and see lots of cool bloggers' interpretation of this designer look.
