The other day Bela asked me how the Ferris wheel got its name. I learned that a man named George Ferris built the first one for the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. Here is an image of what it looked like.
One of my favorite things in our house is a panel that I got from a workshop on museum exhibits that I attended in Chicago a few years ago. It was one of the displays that the organizers used to show us how to create great exhibits but didn't want to haul home. It was free! And it looks just like the image above.
In my research after Bela's question, I also learned that Ferris wheels are considered America's Eiffel Tower, because they were created for similar reasons.
Part of the busy-ness of the past few days included Griffin and Bela's first major league baseball game on Sunday. Our Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox, and Miguel Cabrera got his 300th home run. I think for the kids, though, the more historic moment of that day was riding in this special Ferris wheel.

That was a fantastic game! How lucky for all of you to go! Comerica Park is a great baseball park. The Tigers are in first place in the Central League...yea!!!

We were so lucky! We managed to see all three home runs in the limited time we were in our seats (and they were awesome seats). Go Tigers!!! :)
