{Ditto} DIY for July: Fabric Art

Fieldstone Hill Design is again hosting a fun & stylish DIY challenge. This framed ikat fabric is the inspiration. The task for all of us participants was to frame some fabric and use it in a lovely display.

I love fabric generally, and really like this one in particular, so when I found something quite similar on One Kings Lane this week I was thrilled. ... And it gave me the idea I needed for my own project.

This pretty fabric is from Pottery Barn. Last summer I bought a single place mat and napkin on clearance. What do you do with just one setting?

Frame them!

The framed fabric is part of a larger grouping of photos in our living room that includes vintage photos of my grandma, aunt, and mom at the beach. The bottom center photo is something I found online; a photo of Positano, Italy, that I had printed and put into a frame.

Beneath this little gallery display is a reading nook with a throw pillow in the same fabric.

If I had oodles of money I might have purchased the runner from One Kings Lane and framed it for a much bigger impact. {Although I also ADORE the driftwood-looking frames in the inspiration photo and would want to replicate those, too.}

I am a big proponent of using what I have, and I think this solution works great. The pattern of the fabric is more impactful because it repeats (two frames and the pillow). This is the #1 designer secret from Darlene

Another option for framing was this quilt handmade by my other grandma. I love love love all the color and pattern, and it especially makes me happy that it was something she made. But I'm not sure where I would have hung it and I certainly didn't have a frame the right size.

What do you think? Are you inspired to frame a beautiful piece of fabric or family heirloom? And that One Kings Lane runner was from the HGTV Design Star sale. Have you been watching? I think I should now!
